LITI Laser-induced thermal imaging process

suggest high resolution OLEDs

Samsung Display want to use for the organic materials deposition process named LITI Laser-induced thermal imaging process instead of Fine-Metal-Mask FMM.
The korean company plans at the 5.5G A2 P3 line to test the LITI Laser-induced thermal imaging process. With this technology the company plans to introduce higher resolution OLED DIsplays.
In the past a major partner for this process was 3M both companies want to develop that kind of process for OLED Displays. This technology allowas high resolution patterning of materials.
The other process Fin Metal Mask FMM is more expensive than LITI and with this technology high resolution displays are not possible. Samsung Display plans to replace FMM with a Small Mask Scanning (SMS process). This method is under development for a longer time and the method is very similar to FMM.
At FMM the substrate and the mask is being fixed in one postion, at the SMS method the mask is held constant and the substrate moves. The mask is only as large as the panel and the possibility of sagging is minimized. Samsung Display must to release panels over 300 ppi and is working with AP Systems to introduce Laser Induced Thermal Imaging (Liti).

In the LITI process, the HIL, HTL EIL and BL are deposited using VTE, the same the FMM process. The difference lies in the light emitting layers, which are deposited on a donor film, placed over the substrate and hit with a laser to transfer the material from the donor film to the substrate.
